Top Five Movie Directors
68Many Great Film Makers In Today's Movie Business
When it comes to making movies, one of the most important jobs is the direction of a movie. Over the decades of the production of movies, there have been many great and successful directors in the movie business. Stephen Spielberg, James Cameron, Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese and George Lucas are just a few names that really stand out when making epic movies. Although these are some of the most well respected and big name movie directors, my top five favorite directors are a unique and diverse group of people that have made a lot of movies that have become my favorite films to watch.
Tony Scott
Man On Fire
Christopher Nolan
The Dark Knight
Tim Burton
Edward Scissorhands
Michael Bay
The Rock
Ridley Scott
Black Hawk Down
My Favorite Directors
-
Tony Scott- Tony Scott is my all time favorite director. He has made many blockbuster films with his unique and flashy style of film making. From big name movies like Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Enemy of the State and Spy Game, Scott knows how to make great action suspense thrillers with out over doing it on special effects. My two favorite movies by director Tony Scott is Man On Fire and Deja Vu. On the film Man On Fire, Scott shot a few of the intense scenes with an old time wind up camera to give a few of the scenes a more authentic look to them. Working on many films with actor Denzel Washington has proven to become a successful formula for making great films. Tony Scott has a talented way of combining thrills and action sequences that stand out among other films in the same genre.
-
Christopher Nolan- My second favorite director is fairly new to the game of directing films but has already proven that he knows how to create and successful film. Christopher Nolan's first film Memento which was a psychological thriller that gained popularity for its original plot and style. From there Nolan became a successful film director. His career began to rise with films like Batman Begins, The Prestige, and the newest blockbuster film Inception. These are all great films but my favorite film of Nolan's is The Dark Knight. Of course the performance of Heath Ledger really made the film what it is today, Nolan put the movie together so well. His unique and original styles of shooting and writing movies, makes Christopher Nolan an all time wonderful director who is only in the early stages of his career.
-
Tim Burton- Dark, grim and sometimes awkward, Tim Burton is truly a unique minded director. Taking elements of horror and tragedy and making them into beautiful cinema movies, Burton can really create such classic films. From films like Beetle Juice, Sleepy Hollow, Batman, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street show Burton's visually dark style and creepy characters that make him a odd and unusual director which has made a very successful name for himself in Hollywood. Edward Scissorhands is my favorite film from Tim Burton. To me, it is truly one of the greatest and unusual love stories to ever be created. Tim Burton's success also has much to do with the collaboration with big name actor Johnny Depp. Tim Burton was the launch of of Depp's career and every time these two team up to make a film, you can expect a unique film that will satisfy the true fans of director Tim Burton.
-
Michael Bay- Look up to formula for making a big blockbuster popcorn movie and you will see the name of director Michael Bay. Nothing short of action and great special effects makes Michael Bay my fourth favorite director on my list. Bad Boys 1 and 2, Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Armageddon and Pearl Harbor, Michael Bay is no stranger to making high budget successful films with amazing visual effects. Although Bay continues to make films and getting better and better each time, The Rock is still my favorite film by Michael Bay. When tourist on Alcatraz Island were taken hostage by Force Reconnaissances Marines with missiles aimed for the downtown city of San Francisco armed with a chemical gas that is used in modern day warfare, The Rock became a huge action movie success. With tons of action and suspense, Michael Bay is truly a great director who makes entertaining films with clever new action sequences that make each film a blockbuster.
-
Ridley Scott- The last director on my list is one who has been making movies for decades. He is also the older brother to my favorite director Tony Scott. Ridley Scott has a unique and diverse talent when it comes to directing films. He scared the audiences with his first big blockbuster movie a science fiction horror film, Alien. This not only opened the door to Scott's success, but it also started a movie franchise that is still in production till this day. Ridley Scott does not just create films for one genre, he has made many films in drama, action, thriller, and science fiction that make him one of Hollywood's great directors. Films like Thelma and Louise, G.I. Jane, Blade Runner, Hannibal and American Gangster show just how creative and unique his directing skills are. Although many people would agree Gladiator is one of his most popular films, my favorite was the military action movie, Black Hawk Down which was based on true events. His raw and intense action scenes showed just how dangerous it was to be in an environment that this movie was based on. Ridley Scott is one of Hollywood's most diverse and talented directors.

You can tell by my hubs that I love lists, and I like this one. Ridley Scott is probably my favorite director, though I've never given much thought to directors, I must say, favoring writers and actors. Good work. Later!
