Supporting Local Music

The music scene today is not nearly secure as it was decades ago. One band that might be popular this year may not be around next year. Growing up in the eighties and nineties I was spoiled with epic music and bands. Metal, Rock and Grunge were all at the genres that were truly inspirational and true to the music. It seems now that bands and groups are just trying to make by selling out for an image rather than staying true to the fans and music. One thing I learned though, a lot of the best music and some of my favorite bands are probably ones that you have never heard of.

I believe in supporting local music. One main reason is the music and musicians you can hear locally are some of the best musicians out there. Living in Louisiana I have had the privilege to know and hear many great bands live as well as on cd. I have become friends with many of them and realized that they want to make it big without selling out or going a different direction. I ask many of you reading this to support your local music scene. You might be surprised just how amazing and talented some of those musicians are. Also, I want to share with you a few local and regionally close bands that I have gotten to know and have seen live many times. Some of those bands are still together, others may have taken a break or have split up but their music is still available via MySpace, Facebook, and other music pages.

Meriwether, Discovery Corps, The American Tragedy, Pandemic and Tyler Read are few talented bands that are from the Louisiana region. All great musicians, with each band having its own personal style of rock music. Some other bands not from Louisiana would be Nothing More, Jealousy Curve, The American Fangs and The Gravity Guild. All these bands contribute great music and lyrics that are worth a listen. I can’t express enough on how important staying true to the music is and that is why most of these bands are where they are today. They have all developed a huge fan base not by selling out, but by tour their butts off and not giving in to the music industry that wants to change the look and sound of these bands. With all these bands, some of the greatest music and talent can be heard in my opinion.
